The laptop of Mr. Rohit, an Accountant of a company, has got stolen and he has lost all his tally data.
He does not have a habit of taking regular tally data backup and he never dreamed of losing his laptop.
Being an Accountant it is a tough situation and he might have got fired from his job. Now he will have to enter all the tally data, it will require lots of time and energy.
He was using latest Tally 9 ERP- Single user.
His first hope was to call tallysolutions customer care.
He called the them, they told they can’t help him in recovering the data since they do not keep back of data online. Back up of accounting data, being confidential in nature, is not kept by the Tallysolutions people. And one more reason is that tally is not an internet based/online software. Tally is an offline software 🙁
His second hope is that, if he could find his laptop back. But things don’t go as you think.
He never found his laptop back. And if there are some chances of recovering laptop back, then how long he has to wait for. And even if he recovered his laptop back , there might be chances that the laptop has been done factory set ( deletion of all the laptop data).
The only solution, he found was to re-enter all the lost tally data. It Sucks 🙁
Was there any other solution to it? answer is BIG NO, but had Mr. Rohit be a smart accountant, he could have recovered his all tally data. HOW? The answer is cloud computing. 🙂
Usually we take back up of tally data by copying the data file from the data folder where tally is saved.
Then we paste it in different folder as back up. But if we lost the system then all back will be lost. Second way is that we save it in our mail, and any time we can download it and use it.
But for this we will have to take regular tally backup. And if the daily accounting entries is in large number, then we will have to take daily backup. As we are human, we will definitely forget to backup sometime.
So is there any mechanism, where we can take automatic back up of tally data?
Yes, through cloud computing.
Cloud computing provides for storage of data in a remote located server that is connected through internet. It could be public, Private and Hybrid.
Google Drive also provides storage of data in Google Drive. We need to have a gmail account. From there you can download & install the Google Drive in your system. It will be like other C , D , E ( local ) drive. You can save all your files in this Google drive.
The files you saved in Google drive can be accessed from any system with internet connectivity by your Gmail account. All the files saved in Google drive are now available online. Any change you make in the Google drive of your computer will automatically get synced with the online Google Drive.
So the You can save the tally data folder (where tally data is saved) in this Google Drive. Any change you make in tally or entries passed in the tally will automatically get saved in the data folder saved in the Google Drive.
Google Drive Gives you 15GB of Free Space. To know more about uses of Google Drive Read this
So now happily you can work with your tally without worrying about the backup data.
